Meet Sunday Mug. Isn't it the cutest ever? SM is my favorite mug (and it's hardly a mug, more an odd-shaped tea cup). It's not fancy. 1975 CorningWare. Taken from my parents' mug collection to my SF apartment, and from SF to Texas, it now resides next to four plain grayish-ivory Ikea mugs. Open the cabinet door and there's SM, bright and happy and all, "Pick me! Pick me!"
But I only pick SM on Sundays, hence the name. Occasionally on Saturdays, but mainly just Sundays, when I make french press coffee, sleep til the disgusting hour of 7:30 a.m., and lounge on the couch and watch Giada and Co. make something I will never, ever replicate.
I recently got a DSLR camera and have taken to photographing objects around my apartment. I thought Sunday Mug should make its debut here since it brings a lot of happiness to me (yes, putting 'life' on the to-get list...).
At one point I searched eBay to see if there was anyone else selling their Sunday Mugs. I discovered the Sunday Mug's official name is CorningWare Friendship. Well, isn't that Heartland-ish. I feel like breaking bread with some Amish folk or decorating the kitchen with other rooster items, overly-cute pig cookie jars, maybe a tacky apron or two, and throwing some wood paneling on the walls and a wreath on the door.
After seeing what else was out there, I decided SM is best on its own. More of it would be gross (sorry, SM). You can only take so much bright orange and blue Amish kitch. But even if I wanted it, I couldn't find a single SM when I searched eBay, anyhow. A few plates, pots, and "Amish Blue Bird Friendship" dishes (see, I was right about the Amish thing, that was a total guess). No mugs. These suckers are collectors items. (Stop laughing)
Except. This little tea pot is for sale and it's tempting. I'm not one for wild and crazy bidding wars but at $9.99 how could I resist? Maybe SM does need a friend?
