Your Happy Monday Recommendation

Third Happy Monday Rec in a row. Boom. You know what else goes boom? Thunder. All. Night. Long. (All night...all night). Last night was the third Sunday night in a row that had crackling lightning and booming thunderstorms right over my roof. Then around midnight came the hail against the paper-thin windows, 12 inches from my head. Then came the dog standing at my face, scared. This is the norm now. I don't sleep, instead I lie awake thinking about how much Monday is gonna suck, and impending tornadoes. One then the other.

There is nothing scary about lightning and thunder. Or at least, there used to not be. The only time we got to really see a storm in California growing up was at Lake Tahoe over the summer. We'd watch a storm come over the mountains and across the lake right at us, and it was awesome. You know why it was awesome? In California and Nevada, thunderstorms do not bring tornadoes. In Texas, in the spring (and now almost year-round, thanks to cough-climatechange-cough-cough) they do.

Beautiful:

Fucking scary:

Today's Happy Monday Recommendation is simple. If you want a Happy Monday (which sounds sort of like a happy ending but is not at all related), all you have to do is get 8 hours of sleep the night before. For me, that means heavy doses of wine and Benadryl. Or moving.

Also not recommended for a Happy Monday: googling photos of Lake Tahoe, which remind you of your childhood summers spent camping and winters spent skiing.

Sorry. This is a dark Happy Monday.
