It's so cold here the dog refuses to do his business. To be fair, you try doing a squat while your legs shake uncontrollably and an arctic blast blows up your lower half. So after refusing to go all morning and afternoon (that's like, three potty breaks he's missed) because there's ice and snow on every lawn, bush, and plot of dirt, he decides to make the parking lot of the local Thai restaurant his new place of business. I think he has something against Thai food. Maybe he could smell the kind of meat they were using? Luckily for the owners and the patrons, I'm one of the seemingly few dog owners in the 'hood who picks up after their dog.
After that ordeal, I spent the rest of the afternoon sipping brandy apple cider and making baked potato soup, courtesy of Smitten Kitchen, one of my fave food blogs.
Baked potato soup recipe here.

Brandy Apple Cider recipe, courtesy of the boyfriend's family:
6 cups apple cider
3 cinnamon sticks
15-30 whole cloves
8 slices of crystalized ginger
3/4 cup brandy
Combine all the ingredients except the brandy in a pot, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes. Strain the spices and add brandy before serving. Toast to the day drinking opportunity. Inhale deeply. Enjoy thoroughly.
And that's your snow day recap. Leave it to me to jump from that first topic to the second without anything (like a hand-washing) in between. Hope you were unfazed.

Baked Potato Soup is amazing.
